Case Study: Kaiser Permanente improves member services and performance with Cloud Foundry

A Cloud Foundry Case Study

Preview of the Kaiser Permanente Case Study

Kaiser Permanente - Customer Case Study

Kaiser Permanente, a large nonprofit health care provider, turned to Cloud Foundry as it worked to modernize member-facing services while integrating extensive legacy systems with cloud-based infrastructure. The organization needed to give millions of members faster, more seamless access to appointments, prescriptions, secure messaging, and other digital services, but faced major challenges around latency, scalability, and accessing highly secured backend clinical data.

Using Cloud Foundry, Kaiser Permanente built a microservices-based digital foundation with runtimes, databases, caching, and adapter services that connected legacy systems to modern web and mobile experiences. The platform helped the team migrate Java applications, manage eventual consistency and distributed transactions, and tune performance for high-demand workloads. As a result, Kaiser Permanente was able to launch services like video visits, chronic condition support, and healthier-living guidance, while Cloud Foundry features such as GO Router Keep Alive and OCI layered file system improvements helped reduce latency and CPU spikes.
