Case Study: GAP achieves elastic price optimization with Cloud Foundry

A Cloud Foundry Case Study

Preview of the GAP Case Study

Gap Uses Cloud Foundry to Make Thousands of Price Adjustments

Gap, the global clothing retailer with more than 3,300 stores and over $15 billion in annual revenue, needed a way to optimize pricing across constantly changing inventory and local demand conditions. The company’s challenge was to make thousands of fast, data-driven price adjustments while accounting for factors such as weather, location, and customer response.

Cloud Foundry provided the platform Gap used to run its price optimization workloads, combining VMware Cloud Foundry with tools such as Gurobi, Spring Boot, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Java, Jenkins CI, Splunk, Tesora, Denodo, and Vault. The solution helped Gap handle up to 6,000 optimization instances in a four-hour period using around 90 large AWS instances, while simplifying infrastructure and enabling quick deployment, easier CI/CD, and elastic scaling.
