Datev Integrates Cloud Foundry Into Private Data Centers

DATEV, a German cooperative and long-time data center service provider, needed a way to bring cloud-native development into its highly secure private data centers without moving sensitive data to the public cloud. Working with Cloud Foundry, and specifically VMware Cloud Foundry (PCF), DATEV aimed to improve developer productivity while staying compliant with German data residency and security requirements.

Cloud Foundry helped DATEV embed cloud capabilities “in the middle” of its existing data centers, supporting a DevOps culture and enabling platform teams to focus on the product rather than the infrastructure. The result was major scale-up—from 20 developers to about 900–950 developers—and roughly 1,500 app instances, with an ambition to get an app from development to production in about two hours.
