A Cloud 66 Case Study
PokéMapper, built by OpenRide, is a crowd-sourced Pokémon Go sightings tracker that needed to handle sudden launch-day traffic without server failures. Using Cloud 66, the team spun up a Node.js and MongoDB stack on a DigitalOcean droplet and prepared for rapid growth as user demand surged.
Cloud 66 enabled PokéMapper to scale quickly with load balancing, larger droplets, and seamless service moves with no downtime. The team also used Cloud 66 for Let’s Encrypt security and automated MongoDB backups, and the app stayed stable through spikes from 150 to over 400 simultaneous active users, with capacity planned for 800 and “zero downtime” scaling throughout the day.
