IT-as-a-Service: Providing Agility with Visibility

Baylor College of Medicine, a leading health sciences university in Houston, faced a challenge with shadow IT as research teams used grant money to buy computing resources outside central IT, making it hard to control costs and manage infrastructure. Using CliQr CloudCenter, Baylor College of Medicine looked for a more agile IT-as-a-Service approach to support its distributed researchers while improving visibility and governance.

CliQr helped Baylor College of Medicine build a private cloud solution with Cisco UCS and VMware vCenter, adding custom governance through CliQr’s RESTful API and policy controls. As a result, research teams gained self-service provisioning and could deploy applications in minutes, while IT centralized cost control and lifecycle management, reduced public cloud spending, and kept the option to burst to the cloud if needed.
