A Clio Case Study
Vela Wood is a Dallas– and Austin-based corporate law firm founded in 2009 by Kevin Vela and partner Radney Wood; the 23‑person firm promotes “desk independence,” allowing staff to work abroad for a month at a time. That mobility exposed a core challenge: attorneys hate manual time entry and legacy, desktop-only practice software made tracking time, logging case information, and accessing matter files remotely difficult—especially while traveling internationally.
The firm has used Clio’s cloud platform to solve this, using the Activities tab for real‑time time and expense entry, centralized matter notes, searchable records, and activity filters to monitor cases and staff work from anywhere. As a result, Vela Wood stays organized and connected across borders, keeps time entry up to date, improves oversight and information retrieval, and has made remote work and international travel a scalable employee benefit.
