A Clio Case Study
The Veterans Advocacy Project (VAP) at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law is a pro bono clinic that helps veterans navigate lengthy, complex benefits appeals. With cases that can last years and files up to thousands of pages, the small staff relies on rotating student volunteers, creating continuity, document-management, and time‑tracking challenges—plus the need to capture technical medical evidence and log communications for educational and grant purposes.
To solve this, VAP adopted Clio as an all‑in‑one, paperless practice-management system. Centralized documents, timekeeping, detailed case notes, and reporting let supervisors monitor caseloads, ensure smooth handoffs between students, and track who worked on each case so alumni can be notified of outcomes. The change improved continuity and administration, supported grant and educational reporting, and helped the project continue serving hundreds of veterans.
