Abmu Prospective Trial in Patient Group with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Other Specific Concomitant Disease

Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABMU) in Wales, working through its Joint Clinical Research Facility, needed a better way to identify eligible patients for a clinical trial in type 2 diabetes mellitus with additional concomitant disease. Manual pre-screening had become slow and inefficient, and recruitment had stalled using existing processes. Clinithink’s CLiX ENRICH was used to help address the challenge.

Clinithink implemented CLiX ENRICH for Clinical Trials to analyze unstructured clinical text from 412,460 documents against 17 inclusion and exclusion criteria, generating a ranked list of likely candidates. The solution identified 541 qualifying patients and 75 highly eligible candidates in just 28 days, compared with 110 qualifying patients and 5 enrollments over 225 days using manual review. Clinithink’s approach helped ABMU enroll 4 patients in two weeks, nearly doubling enrollment and improving the rate to more than 10 times the manual process.
