Case Study: Hitachi achieves improved global supply chain risk forecasting and procurement resilience with ClimateAi

A ClimateAi Case Study

Preview of the Hitachi Case Study

ClimateAi Enables Global Supply Chain Risk Model for Hitachi

Hitachi, Ltd., a global conglomerate building a digital observatory with the University of Tokyo to assess supply chain disruption risk, needed reliable seasonal weather and extreme-event forecasts to inform procurement and supplier planning. To meet this need, Hitachi integrated ClimateAi (via its ClimateLens platform and ClimateAi API) to provide the climate data stream required for the model.

ClimateAi delivered on-demand forecasts across multiple horizons (1–14 day, 2–6 week, 1–6 month) and spatial resolutions (1 km and 25 km), plus seasonal tropical cyclone projections, enabling Hitachi’s R&D team to advance the observatory and giving procurement officers actionable six-month outlooks for contract and stock decisions. ClimateAi’s forecasts have already influenced procurement prioritization — for example, an elevated probability of tropical cyclone impact in Chennai for Oct 1–Dec 31, 2024 informs preemptive stock increases and supplier negotiations.
