Pump uses ClickHouse Cloud to power Pump View, its cloud cost visibility platform. The team needed a way to analyze billions of AWS and GCP billing records each day and give customers much deeper insight than AWS Cost Explorer could provide, including breakdowns by region, service, usage type, team, and custom tags.

With ClickHouse, Pump built an architecture that ingests Parquet billing exports into analytical tables at scale, supports fast slicing and dicing of cost data, and keeps results consistent with Postgres for live version tracking and atomic updates. The system now handles about 5 billion records per day, around 5 TB of uncompressed data, with each ingestion taking roughly 40 seconds and the primary cost table exceeding 55 billion rows.
