How Picnic uses ClickHouse for real-time analytics across 20+ fulfillment centers and 1 million unique stores

Picnic, the online grocery retailer operating across the Netherlands, Germany, and France, needed a way to deliver real-time analytics across 20+ highly automated fulfillment centers and millions of customer shopping journeys. As its warehouses each had different layouts, assortments, and operational needs, the company required a scalable, self-service data platform to track everything from inventory and staffing to order progress and delivery timing. Picnic chose ClickHouse Cloud to support this growing analytics workload.

ClickHouse helped Picnic rebuild its real-time insights platform around a fast, SQL-based analytics layer with materialized views, dbt models, and Grafana dashboards. The new architecture reduced operational complexity, enabled self-service adoption without heavy engineer support, and accelerated model growth across warehouse and application analytics. Picnic also highlighted that ClickHouse was easy to operate, cost-effective, and simple to scale, with support for GDPR-related access controls and continuous event ingestion across its supply chain.
