How Anthropic is using ClickHouse to scale observability for the AI era

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude family of frontier AI models, needed a way to scale observability as usage surged and telemetry volumes exploded. Its challenge was to keep up with fast-growing training and inference data while maintaining strict security requirements inside a tightly controlled, air-gapped compute environment. ClickHouse was chosen as the database foundation for real-time observability analytics.

Working with Anthropic, ClickHouse helped deploy a custom, air-gapped version of ClickHouse Cloud architecture on Anthropic’s infrastructure, using Kubernetes, ClickHouse Operator, keepers, object storage, Prometheus, and Vector. The result was a secure, scalable observability stack with fast, reliable queries and far less operational overhead; Anthropic reported that the database is “green,” queries are “lightning-fast,” and engineers no longer need to spend time on re-sharding or replication fixes. ClickHouse also played an instrumental role in helping Anthropic develop and ship Claude 4.
