Whitbread, the UK’s largest hospitality group with 43,000 employees and brands including Premier Inn and Costa Coffee, faced a cross‑company challenge to tighten expense controls and standardize travel policy while remaining fair to employees. Click Travel implemented an easy‑to‑use booking tool, change management communications, automated pre‑trip flight approvals and a tighter rail policy (encouraging advance tickets and excluding first class). Online adoption rose from under 3% to 64% in Q1 and reached 80% by Q4 (88% in 2014), delivering immediate savings of 51% on airfares and 12% on rail in the first quarter; overall travel spend flatlined despite bookings increasing 44%, with additional savings opportunities identified.
