A Clever Devices Case Study
Brampton Transit, the public transport operator for the City of Brampton in Ontario, Canada, struggled with largely manual maintenance processes before working with Clever Devices. Drivers had to report mechanical and electrical faults themselves, meaning issues were often only caught after a breakdown had already disrupted service, increased towing costs, and inconvenienced passengers. Brampton also lacked an automated way to detect fleetwide problems early enough to take advantage of manufacturer warranties, and had no system to disable active regeneration in diesel buses inside garages, creating indoor air quality and safety concerns.
Clever Devices implemented Automated Vehicle Health Monitoring (AVM®) to help Brampton Transit move from reactive to proactive maintenance. The system automatically reported faults, helped reduce road calls and maintenance costs, improved indoor air quality by geofencing the depot to disable regeneration, and supported better warranty tracking and repair planning. In a pilot involving 40 vehicles, Brampton identified more than $30,000 in savings, and AVM also uncovered two engines nearing warranty expiration that could have cost an estimated $15,000-$20,000 each if the issue had gone undetected.
