A Cleo Case Study
Portbase is a non-profit Port Community System operator serving the Rotterdam port community that needed to replace hundreds of bilateral links with a single, secure, mission‑critical messaging hub. Facing rapid growth—from about 1 million messages in 2004 to an expected 60 million in 2016 (≈175,000 messages/day)—Portbase required high performance, advanced monitoring, strong security (moving customers off FTP/email), and at least 99.8% availability. To meet those needs they implemented Cleo VLTrader for external messaging.
Cleo VLTrader, supported operationally by ECS International, provided centralized managed file transfer, broad protocol support, stability and monitoring that made onboarding new trading partners fast and secure without retooling Portbase’s own software. As a result, Portbase reliably handles very high message volumes (the platform targets 99.8% availability and ~175,000 messages per day), enabled development of real‑time and track‑and‑trace services, and reports high satisfaction with Cleo and ECS’s responsive support.
