The U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division faced the immense challenge of quickly processing applications for CARES Act relief funds while minimizing the high risk of fraudulent claims, which historically can account for billions in losses during disaster responses. To address this, they partnered with Clearspeed to implement an automated screening solution.
Clearspeed deployed its Verbal voice analytics product, which uses an automated phone questionnaire to analyze vocal responses and assign a risk level to each applicant. This allowed the government to fast-track the trustworthy majority of low-risk applicants, ensuring aid reached those in need more quickly. Simultaneously, the solution identified high-risk individuals for further investigation, enabling the Department of Justice to focus its scarce resources on the areas of highest potential fraud.
