Boingo’s Wi-Fi Sponsorship & Advertising Platform AWS Migration Powered by DevOps Under the Hood

Boingo Wireless needed to expand the infrastructure behind its Wi-Fi Sponsorship & Advertising platform after a 12-month increase in its international footprint. The company wanted a more elastic, scalable, and cost-effective environment than its existing Rackspace deployment, and it turned to ClearScale for help migrating the application to AWS.

ClearScale audited the existing environment, redesigned the architecture for AWS, and used CloudFormation and Chef to automate deployment and configuration. The migration used data synchronization and a mock cutover to reduce downtime and risk, and the new AWS setup gave Boingo Wireless automatic scaling, higher availability, and lower infrastructure costs while supporting more than 1 billion consumers annually across more than a million DAS and Wi-Fi locations.
