The Crown Estate needed a scalable way to manage and share up to 1 petabyte of marine data from more than 120 offshore renewable energy partners, while avoiding the high infrastructure costs of a public-facing service. ClearPeople worked with Microsoft SharePoint and Windows Azure to support the organization’s Marine Data Exchange and make large datasets accessible to the public, developers, and research institutions.

ClearPeople implemented a Business-Critical SharePoint solution that integrated SharePoint with Azure to store, process, and publish big data through an intranet, extranet, and public website. The result was a highly scalable cloud platform that replaced the previous repository, reduced hosting costs by up to £2.2 million per year, and saved more than 7,500 hours annually by automating what had been a manual data collation and publishing process.
