SIL International supports 300+ language groups with ClearML

SIL International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to language development and Bible translation, faced challenges in maintaining reliable uptime for their production AI translation service. Their on-premises GPU server lacked redundancy, making it vulnerable to disruptions, and they needed a scalable solution that could also integrate their diverse research hardware. They turned to their existing vendor, ClearML, to address these production requirements for their self-serve AI translation service.

ClearML implemented a solution using its Autoscalers through Google Cloud, which provided high-reliability GPUs on demand. A key feature was the Policy Manager, which prioritized using SIL's own data center GPUs first, only scaling to the cloud when necessary. This provided SIL with both cost-effectiveness and reliability. As a result, SIL International now confidently supports over 300 language groups with custom translation models, with a production system backed by reliable cloud scaling and well-integrated research resources.
