The City of Ypsilanti, Michigan needed a faster, more efficient way to create its annual budget book after staff consolidation left the Finance Director with limited bandwidth. Using a mix of Microsoft Word and Excel made the process tedious, error-prone, and difficult to keep aligned with GFOA best practices and ADA accessibility goals. The city turned to ClearGov’s Digital Budget Book to modernize and simplify the process.
With ClearGov, the City of Ypsilanti launched its first website-based budget book in just two months, with department heads collaborating on a fully interactive, GFOA- and ADA-optimized version. ClearGov’s automated charts, formatting, and page numbering saved significant time and reduced manual work, while making the budget easier for residents and councilmembers to understand. The city was so pleased with the result that it used the budget book to apply for a GFOA award and plans to use ClearGov for future budgeting and capital improvement planning.
