The City of Erie, PA worked with ClearGov to digitize its firefighter application process and make it easier for prospective applicants to apply. The city’s original process required people to visit city hall in person, raising concerns about convenience, accessibility, security, and ease of use for both applicants and staff. Erie also wanted to modernize its technology and broaden and diversify its applicant pool.
ClearGov implemented a fully digital application workflow using ClearForms, while still providing a computer station at city hall for those without internet access. The new process let applicants apply 24/7, start and resume applications, and communicate with reviewers directly. Erie saw a 30% increase in application volume and a 30% increase in application revenue, while staff processed more applications in less time and applicants were drawn from a broader, more diverse region.
