A Classcraft Case Study
East Elementary, a K–5 STEM school in North Carolina, was using a traditional PBIS system that left many students feeling excluded and demotivated because rewards were infrequent and felt punitive. Seeking a more engaging, timely approach, East Elementary turned to Classcraft and implemented the Classcraft platform to better link day-to-day positive behavior with immediate, meaningful rewards.
Classcraft rolled out a pilot in January 2021 with one class of 50 students, using easy-to-use templates, simple rostering, customizable avatars, and instant in-game rewards tied to real-life privileges; teachers then expanded the program schoolwide to all 500 students. The result, according to East Elementary staff, was immediate and measurable: increased student engagement and excitement, frequent positive feedback and shout-outs, seamless scaling from 50 to 500 students, and a more inclusive PBIS model where everyone is invited to participate.
