A Classcraft Case Study
Broadview Middle School, a Burlington, NC middle school of 854 students, faced an outdated, analog PBIS system using physical cards and stamps that produced high rates of office referrals and required teachers to spend 30–60 minutes per day on tracking. Seeking a modern, positive-behavior platform, Broadview chose Classcraft as their first PBIS technology to improve student engagement and enable data-driven decision making.
Classcraft was rolled out schoolwide with a short 30-minute training and plug-and-play behavior templates so teachers could award points a few times a day, while leaders tracked automated behavior data. The Classcraft implementation cut time spent awarding rewards by 80%, reduced administrative tracking from more than 5 hours to 30 minutes per week, shortened teacher reward time from about 60 minutes/day to a few minutes, and corresponded with a 33% overall reduction in behavioral incidents (referrals down from 365 to 318 and minors from 1,032 to 620 in first-quarter comparisons), prompting district-wide expansion.
