A Claroty Case Study
Mount Sinai Health System, an internationally acclaimed integrated healthcare system in New York City, needed better visibility into its vast environment of medical devices, IoT devices, and connected systems. The organization struggled to accurately identify assets, understand device behavior, and manage risk across biomedical and IT operations, while also dealing with patching constraints, end-of-life systems, and a complex mix of connected devices. Claroty, through its Medigate platform, helped provide the visibility needed to see what was on the network and assess the impact of those devices on patient care.
Claroty’s Medigate solution was integrated with Cisco to monitor device traffic, identify ports and protocols, recommend policies, and enforce segmentation through Cisco ISE. Mount Sinai used uniform and mixed VLANs, plus device-specific dACLs, to isolate IoMT devices and create micro-segmentation for more than 1,000 devices across categories such as imaging, robotic surgery, dispensing, lab, and security systems. The result was stronger policy enforcement, improved compliance, and a zero-trust approach that reduced risk while protecting critical clinical systems and supporting patient safety.
