A Clarivate Case Study

Preview of the University of Malaya Case Study

Evaluating natural sciences research with bibliometric data

The University of Malaya, Malaysia’s oldest university and a leading public research institution, needed a reliable way to evaluate research impact using publication and citation data. Its challenge was to ensure that only high-quality, non-predatory journals were included in assessments, while also supporting international collaboration tracking, industry engagement, and improved rankings. The university used Clarivate’s Web of Science Core Collection for this research evaluation work.

Clarivate’s Web of Science Core Collection provided UM with curated, fully indexed journal data, giving the university confidence in the quality of the metrics used to measure performance. As a result, UM was able to more accurately assess research impact, better demonstrate collaboration networks, and benchmark productivity against peers to support strategy and rankings. Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports tools, including JIF Percentile, also helped the university compare journals across categories more effectively.
