University College Cork establishes Ireland's largest low-cost air sensor network with Clarity Movement's 22 Node-S devices

University College Cork researchers, working on the Life Emerald project for the Irish Environmental Protection Agency, faced the challenge of gathering hyperlocal air quality data to validate Ireland's first countrywide forecast model. The existing network of regulatory monitors was too sparse and expensive to deploy at the needed density. They required a flexible, self-sufficient monitoring solution to capture neighborhood-scale pollution data across multiple towns.

The solution was deploying a network of 22 Clarity Node-S air quality sensors. These solar-powered, cellular-connected devices provided the operational flexibility to be installed on streetlights without needing external power or WiFi, enabling unprecedented data density. The Clarity solution delivered the reliable, real-time data required to successfully inform and validate the national air quality model, a key step in enhancing public health protection across Ireland.
