Kyrgyzhydromet deploys 50 Clarity sensors to unlock $50 million for cleaner air

Kyrgyzhydromet, the hydrometeorological service of the Kyrgyz Republic, faced a significant challenge with severe air pollution in Bishkek, particularly during the winter months. The city's geographical and climatic conditions trapped pollutants from coal-powered heating and vehicular emissions, creating a major public health crisis. To combat this, they partnered with vendor Clarity Movement to deploy a network of air quality sensors to establish a reliable pollution baseline.

Clarity implemented its Sensing-as-a-Service solution by deploying 50 of its Node-S air quality sensors across Bishkek. These solar-powered, cellular-connected devices provided real-time data on particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which was visualized on the Clarity Dashboard. This data was instrumental in developing Clean Air Action Plans, securing over $50 million in funding from the World Bank for air quality improvement projects, and raising public awareness to drive both policy and individual change.
