The sky is the limit with FileMaker Go

FileMaker, an Apple subsidiary, helped light-aviation pilot Mark Hughes tackle the challenge of accessing critical pre-flight and in-flight information safely and simply. Mark needed a mobile, easy-to-use system that consolidated airfield data, restricted zones, radio frequencies, weather and fuel/glide calculations despite intermittent internet and no formal database training.

Using FileMaker Go on the iPad he built a visual database covering 560 UK airfields, farm strips, danger areas, frequency lists and configurable aircraft performance calculations, with links to Google Maps and weather. The app improved safety and planning, let Mark fly paperless at events, attracted strong interest from other pilots and created a potential commercial opportunity, with plans to adapt the solution for iPhone.
