Case Study: OceanX (nonprofit ocean exploration) achieves near-real-time ship-to-shore data synchronization with Claris FileMaker

A Claris Case Study

Preview of the OceanX Case Study

Pushing the limits of ocean discovery for the world to see

OceanX is a nonprofit that explores and documents the ocean from its research vessel OceanXplorer, producing scientific and media content worldwide. With hundreds of crew, scientists, and journalists moving between ship and shore—and frequent operations in remote, satellite-poor locations—the organization struggled with fragmented enterprise systems and needed a reliable way to keep everyone current and connected in real time.

Working with Claris Partner Kyo Logic, OceanX built a custom Claris FileMaker application that runs on board when offline and automatically synchronizes with shore via the FileMaker REST API (about every 10 minutes). The platform serves as a central hub that integrates multiple databases and systems, keeping teams aligned, streamlining operations, and scaling to support ongoing research, logistics, and media production.
