Production for HBO's His Dark Materials made seamless with custom app built on Claris Platform

HBO’s His Dark Materials required complex, effects-heavy production management—thousands of shots, many iterations, and a VFX team of a dozen led by coordinator Michael Tuohy. Traditional physical “shot walls” and heavyweight tracking tools were costly, hard to update or share, and slowed decision‑making across production and post teams.

Tuohy built a custom app on the Claris Platform to create a digital shot wall and integrated production tools: a virtual display with real‑time updates, automated reporting and “Final” stamps, and a script breakdown utility that exports lines for budgeting and shares scene data with on‑set wranglers. The solution cut repetitive work dramatically (script breakdowns from hours to minutes), saved hundreds of production hours and tens of thousands of dollars per season, and gave the team flexible, reusable workflows.
