A Claris Case Study
Mote Environmental Laboratory for Forensics, a marine research group studying the age of baleen whales in the Arctic, faced fragmented data and inefficient field workflows. Teams of more than 100 scientists collected photos, samples and complex measurements from remote locations with sparse internet, relying on dozens of scattered Excel files and manual aggregation, and lacking consistent inventory, barcode tracking and QA traceability.
Working with FileMaker partner DocuWrx, the lab implemented a custom FileMaker app built with Agile development for offline mobile data capture, automated calculations that incorporate instrument calibrations and SOPs, and 1D/2D barcode generation and scanning for inventory. The result is a centralized, syncable system that improved mobility, streamlined workflows, enabled faster analytics and reporting, and strengthened QA processes while efficiently managing thousands of physical samples.
