A Claris Case Study
The Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD), the largest school police agency in the U.S., protects more than 1,000 schools across roughly 710 square miles with about 360 sworn and 100 non‑sworn staff. Faced with paper‑dependent HR, payroll and field‑reporting processes—slow overtime approval, inefficient FTP submissions for mandated stop reports, and a rising volume of mental‑health calls requiring secure case tracking—the department needed a way to streamline operations, improve accountability, and protect sensitive data.
LASPD partnered with Claris FileMaker to build a suite of more than 30 custom apps that centralize data and automate workflows. The apps eliminated paper overtime logs and supervisor commutes to payroll, reduced payroll errors, enabled in‑car stop reports with instant supervisory approval and DOJ submission, and provided a HIPAA‑compliant mental‑health case management system with encryption. The result: faster, more secure processes, greater accountability, reduced costs and time savings across the department.
