A Claris Case Study
FileMaker, an Apple subsidiary, worked with the Jericho Mafjar archaeological team to tackle a persistent record-keeping problem: missing 1960s documentation and slow, error-prone paper workflows that required lengthy, off-site data entry and made sharing and analysis difficult. Field teams struggled with lost or illegible notes and delays that hindered timely interpretation of finds.
The team built a custom FileMaker app (FileMaker Go on iPad and the Web) to capture photos, sketches and standardized field data on-site, instantly digitizing records. The solution sped documentation to minutes, enabled easy adaptation of fields, produced more than 1,000 searchable records, preserved relationships between features, and freed researchers to focus on analysis and collaboration.
