John Muir Health establishes centralized service coordination to increase referral alignment

John Muir Health, an integrated health system in the San Francisco Bay Area, needed to launch a centralized referral service as part of a broader network management strategy. Its existing referral coordination process was highly decentralized and relied on incomplete, internally sourced data, making physician-level referral metrics skewed or inaccurate. To improve alignment and prepare preferred provider lists by region, John Muir Health turned to Clarify Health and its Clarify Referrals product.

Clarify Health implemented Clarify Referrals, a SaaS referral analytics solution that uses claims data and precise referral logic to reveal in- and out-of-network opportunities across the market. The platform helped John Muir Health identify referral patterns, outmigration drivers, market share, and provider alignment by physician, specialty, zip code, and facility. As a result, the health system was able to build regional provider lists and pilot its centralized coordination program with better metrics and processes, setting the stage for a system-wide rollout and more referrals to highly aligned in-network providers.
