Our Future Health explores drop-out in the UK’s largest health research programme with Claremont

Our Future Health, the UK's largest ever health research programme, faced a challenge with volunteer drop-out rates. Specifically, they needed to understand why some registered volunteers did not consent to book a clinic appointment and why others who consented failed to book one. They partnered with the vendor Claremont to conduct qualitative research into this behavioural challenge.

Claremont used the COM-B model of behaviour change to analyze decision-making. Their analysis identified key barriers, such as clinic accessibility, and reasons for participation, like advancing science. Claremont provided several behavioural science-informed suggestions, including resetting volunteer expectations at the programme's start and optimizing communications. This work by Claremont provided crucial insights to help Our Future Health improve volunteer retention and progress.
