A Claremont Case Study
The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham faced a significant challenge in driving Covid and MMR vaccination uptake, as local inequalities were influenced by issues of trust, lived experience, and past institutional interactions. The council commissioned the vendor Claremont to design and deliver behaviourally informed campaigns to address practical barriers and promote vaccination at pace.
Claremont's solution involved a two-phase approach. The initial phase used behavioural science, including targeted text messages and the APEASE framework, for campaigns that led to 1,107 Covid vaccinations and a record-breaking MMR clinic. The second phase focused on building trust within Black African and Romanian communities through workshops based on Motivational Interviewing techniques, equipping local leaders with skills for non-judgemental conversations. This Claremont partnership successfully combined immediate campaign impact with deeper, sustainable community engagement.
