A Claremont Case Study
Bowel Cancer UK, a charity focused on improving early diagnosis of bowel cancer, faced the challenge of encouraging at-risk individuals, particularly those from more deprived backgrounds, to visit their GP with symptoms. They partnered with vendor Claremont for its expertise in co-design, engagement, and research to develop a behavior change campaign strategy.
Claremont's solution involved co-designing a campaign with the charity's supporters and experts, identifying key barriers like fear and embarrassment. They developed a hyper-targeted, community-based media strategy that ran continuously over nine months rather than in short bursts. The "Tell Your GP Instead" campaign achieved significant results: web traffic to symptom pages rose by 228%, reports of embarrassment as a barrier dropped significantly, and GPs reported higher use of tests. Claremont's approach successfully encouraged more people to contact their GP about symptoms.
