Mission Hospital boosts teen non-drinking to 82% with Civilian

The customer, Mission Hospital, a ministry of Providence St. Joseph Health, faced the challenge of reducing teen alcohol and substance abuse in South Orange County. A key obstacle was the widespread misperception among teens that "everyone" drinks, which needed to be dispelled. Mission Hospital partnered with the vendor Civilian to address this issue by speaking to teens honestly and from a place of encouragement rather than authority.

Civilian's approach was to create a campaign that communicated the truth: the majority of teens, 72%, were actually choosing not to drink. The solution successfully corrected this misperception. The results achieved by Civilian were significant; after a little more than a year, the number of teens choosing not to drink alcohol improved from 72% to 82%, demonstrating a measurable positive impact on the community.
