Aquafor Beech Ltd. completes a 2020 subwatershed study with CivilGEO GeoHECRAS

Aquafor Beech Ltd., an environmental consulting firm, was hired to perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for the Ramsey Lake subwatershed in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. Their challenge was to address recurring flooding and stormwater runoff issues while guiding future urban growth and protecting water quality in an area with a complex, urbanized landscape featuring many culverts and road crossings. To meet this challenge, they utilized CivilGEO's GeoHECRAS software for their hydraulic modeling and flood mapping.

Using CivilGEO's GeoHECRAS, Aquafor Beech efficiently developed accurate flood profiles and maps for various storm events. The software's ability to import diverse data, model structural elements, and run multiple simulations was crucial. The resulting models identified flood hazards and system limitations, forming the basis for a master plan with recommended mitigation strategies. The use of the Scenario Manager also created effective visuals for public presentation of these alternatives, aiding the community in the implementation of new stormwater management strategies.
