Calgary Board of Education - Customer Case Study

The Calgary Board of Education, the largest school board in Western Canada and the second largest employer in Calgary with more than 14,000 employees and 125,000 students, needed a consistent, system-wide way to engage a large and diverse group of stakeholders. Building on its 2016 Dialogue Framework, the CBE partnered with Civil Space in 2019 to deploy a multi-tenant online engagement platform and training to ensure every school and service unit could run consistent, accessible engagement processes.

Civil Space provided immersive onsite training, a sandbox authoring environment, ongoing support, and a multi-tenant solution with a central “engage” hub plus hundreds of school/service unit hubs; the CBE created and branded more than 250 accounts and produced learning materials to onboard staff. Using Civil Space, the CBE ran major projects such as “Shaping the Future of CBE High Schools” (2,700+ online responses and 1,200+ in-person participants) and a transportation survey that collected 10,000 responses (7,300 from parents/guardians) with an 81% completion rate, delivering measurable increases in reach, consistency, and closed‑loop reporting.
