A CiviCRM Case Study
Democracy International e.V., a pan‑European NGO advocating for citizen-led democracy, needed a web front-end and constituent management system to consolidate supporters, run time‑limited campaigns, and meet a policy of using open‑source tools. They implemented CiviCRM 4 integrated with Drupal 7 to provide both a public campaign site and a backend for member and supporter management, while also addressing ongoing upgrade and maintenance needs.
The project team (two client staff plus Gerhard Oels) migrated over 4,000 addresses into CiviCRM, configured monthly newsletters and individual online petition campaigns, and used Drupal for the public campaign front end—making CiviCRM the organization’s “central nervous system.” The CiviCRM deployment delivered regular communications and streamlined campaign management, shortened time‑to‑market with an efficient team, and laid the groundwork for a planned site re‑launch with updated Drupal/CiviCRM versions and integrated online payments.
