Toronto Fringe Festival - Customer Case Study

Toronto Fringe Festival, which draws over 60,000 attendees to 150 productions each summer, needed to process roughly 600 performer applications for only 150 lottery-selected slots and then manage complex payment and follow‑up communications. To address this, the festival deployed a Drupal/CiviCRM solution using CiviEvents for online applications and payments and CiviMail for integrated performer communications.

The implemented solution combined CiviEvents with Drupal Webform/CCK and a custom Drupal module to let applicants submit essential show info, pay admission fees (and optionally reserve a card or post‑date a cheque for a potential supplementary performer fee), and receive automated notifications. CiviCRM enabled staff to streamline the lottery workflow and follow‑ups, cutting administrative time and simplifying communications while handling ~600 applicants down to 150 participants—demonstrating CiviCRM’s effectiveness for constituent management.
