A CiviCRM Case Study
The Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, a national legal advocacy organization, was juggling multiple legacy systems—an aging Plone CMS, Salsa for ecommerce, Raiser's Edge for donor management and Outlook for events—which created data silos and complex workflows. They chose CiviCRM (integrated with Drupal) to consolidate publishing, donor tracking and user management into a single platform.
Using a Drupal/CiviCRM implementation (with Emphanos as the consulting/development partner), the team migrated more than 1,500 PDF publications and two decades of journal content, imported donor records from Raiser's Edge into CiviCRM, added IP‑based institutional access and workflow improvements, and consolidated four systems into one unified CiviCRM/Drupal database of record—streamlining donations, account management and content delivery while reducing platform complexity.
