Organizing and Promoting Local Nature Conservation Efforts with CiviCRM

Putah Creek Council is a small, 23-year-old California non-profit dedicated to protecting and enhancing Putah Creek. Faced with donor, volunteer, and contact data scattered across a donor database, Constant Contact, and Excel spreadsheets — plus a single staff member and tight budgets — they needed a unified system to track relationships, convert volunteers to donors, and scale outreach. They chose CiviCRM because it closely matched their needs out of the box and integrated with their Drupal website.

Giant Rabbit implemented a stock CiviCRM installation with data cleanup, phased rollout, and training, enabling Putah Creek to use CiviMail, CiviContribute, CiviMember, and CiviEvent for newsletters, online donations and memberships, and event registration. As a result, CiviCRM allowed the Council to sign up members online, support other groups’ fundraising, and engage many times more volunteers in more events, improving continuity, growing their donor base, and ultimately paying for the initial site setup.
