A CiviCRM Case Study
GMO Free CT, an all‑volunteer nonprofit leading Connecticut’s GMO labeling movement, originally managed supporters with Gmail address books and a minimal website that required manual list additions. To scale outreach and reduce volunteer workload they engaged Greenleaf Advancement to implement CiviCRM, using public profile signups and CiviMail to streamline contact management and communications.
By deploying CiviCRM, GMO Free CT added an automated newsletter signup profile, automated handling of signups, bounces and unsubscribes, and sent near‑daily action alerts via CiviMail to several thousand supporters. The CiviCRM automation let volunteers focus on messaging, generated a surge of constituent calls and emails that lawmakers said affected their votes, and helped secure passage of the first statewide GMO labeling law in the U.S.
