Case Study: Alternatives consolidates tens of thousands of donors and automates online donations with CiviCRM

Migrating and managing tens of thousands of donors and members

Alternatives, a Montréal-based nonprofit working on international solidarity, environmental and democratic rights, needed to consolidate and modernize nearly 20 years of donor, member and event data—tens of thousands of contacts and many donations recorded in different ways—and enable online self-service through its Drupal website. To address these challenges, Alternatives adopted CiviCRM to migrate data from DonorPerfect, manage Contacts, Contributions, Events and Memberships, and support automated monthly donations with Moneris.

Using CiviCRM integrated with Alternatives’ Drupal site, the organization migrated tens of thousands of contacts and their donation histories and enabled online donations, membership sign-ups, profile updates, interest preferences and tax-receipt downloads without staff intervention. The CiviCRM implementation improved data exports, enabled better-targeted communications and automated routine donor management, consolidating legacy records and reducing operational overhead.
