Membership Association with Earmarked Donations

The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), a national organization advancing women in medicine, needed to move off an aging iMIS database while preserving extensive custom data and supporting a complex membership lifecycle that spans student, annual, and lifetime members. They also required more sophisticated donation tracking because they solicit earmarked gifts for specific programs and must prevent mingling restricted funds with general funds to meet IRS and accounting requirements.

CiviCRM provided the solution: its import tools migrated most of AMWA’s data in just a few days, and its CiviAccount financial transaction types plus multiple contribution pages let each fund be modeled separately. By assigning each fund its own contribution page, transactions receive the correct accounting codes automatically for easy export to Sage ERP MAS 90, streamlining restricted-donation tracking, improving compliance, and simplifying long‑term member engagement on their WordPress site. CiviCRM’s implementation delivered faster migration, clearer financial reporting, and better membership management.
