Increasing Efficiencies at Engineers for a Sustainable World

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) is a nonprofit community of students, faculty and professionals focused on sustainability, with 34 chapters and over 1,000 active members. Facing an expensive, inflexible legacy site (Affiniscape) and needing robust membership tracking, ESW replaced their site in 2012 by installing CiviCRM integrated with Drupal to manage memberships, contacts, events and communications.

ESW’s Communications & Technology Director implemented CiviCRM using custom fields, dashboards, CiviEvent and the Communication component to centralize data and automate processes. The CiviCRM install imported ~2,000 contacts with minimal data work (~6 hours), cut overhead by roughly $4,000/year, and saved an estimated 8–40 hours/month in manual data entry while improving event sign-ups and mailing list management.
