IMBA Extends CRM Services to Local Chapters Using CiviCRM

The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit representing 35,000 members, 750 clubs and a global network of partners, needed a scalable CRM to unify membership and extend services to local chapters. Facing limited technical staff, tight budgets and an aging FileMaker database, IMBA selected the open‑source vendor CiviCRM to enable a chapter-friendly, joint‑membership model that would let local clubs manage members without competing with the national office.

Using CiviCRM integrated with Drupal (with internal CiviCRM work led by Jason Bertolacci and Drupal help from Open Media Foundation), IMBA implemented contact management, membership structures, ACL permissioning, events, mailings and chapter contribution pages so each chapter can manage its own contacts and communications. The CiviCRM solution now supports roughly 50 internal staff, over 250 local volunteers and more than 128 U.S. chapters, delivering joint memberships, lower long‑term costs and scalable growth across the organization.
