Grass Roots Advocacy for Democracy

Fair Vote Canada is a Canadian multi-partisan citizens' campaign for voting system reform and a small NGO that, in 2008, was running a starter Drupal site and managing constituent relationships in Excel spreadsheets. Their primary goal was to simplify contact and donor administration, but the original spreadsheet layout didn’t map cleanly to CiviCRM’s import format (for example, an indefinite number of donation columns on the same sheet), so they adopted CiviCRM to centralize their records.

CiviCRM was used to import and consolidate Fair Vote Canada’s contacts and donation history and to deploy features such as web profiles for declaration signups and call-sheet generation for telephone outreach. After implementing CiviCRM and expanding its use, the site went viral the day after the 2011 federal election, drawing 70,000 visitors and converting about 7,000 into declaration signups while streamlining their donor and contact management.
